Copal, the aromatic mexican frankincense, is an essential part of the Dia de Muertos Altar and is offered here for the sake of simplicity in the form of incense sticks. According to ancient Indian tradition, our Copal Incense Sticks are handmade and have burning time of around 1 hour. The package contains 5 sticks, which are in no way inferior to the traditional tree resin that is supposed to be burned in a special incense burner.
During the Day of the Dead the Copal incense sticks scare away negative energies and evil spirits and allow therefore the departed souls to safely enter the house and settle at the altar. But also throughout the year, your home will benefit from the purifying effect of this wonderful natural product.
The indigenous high cultures of Mexico used Copal either as an incense in their sacrificial rituals or as remedy for many types of diseases, such as colds, asthma or diarrhea. The word Copal comes from the Nahuatl word Copalli, which means resin. The Maya called the aromatic tree resin "brain of the sky".
