La Catrina Deluxe

Of all the Mexican handicraft materials known to us, expertly crafted papier-mâché radiates by far the most full-bodied elegance. In the case of the new showpiece in our La Catrina collection, this culminates in an opulent feather ornament on the hat and in the form of a stole, also made of feathers, which nestles gently around the neck and waist of the graceful figure. In case you're wondering how we manage to ship such feathered decorations across the big water unscathed and then deliver them to your home as shown in the product photos: oh yes, we can! - even if the transatlantic transportation costs in this case once again make our hair stand on end. 

Back to the rest, which is easily explained: La Catrina Deluxe is made from one piece, as is usual with papier-mâché figures, then painted by hand on a black base color and given a matt varnish in the final step. The skulls are - as everyone can see - g.l.o.r.i.o.s and are framed on the brim of the hat by a perfectly color-coordinated silk border, which can also be found at the bottom of the approx. 9x9 cm base of this magnificent La Catrina interpretation. Minimal deviations from the pictures shown - especially with regard to the feather decoration - are unfortunately unavoidable - as always, you will receive hand-picked quality.

Working with papier-mâché has a long tradition in Mexico. Paper fibers, water and paste are processed into a viscous paste that can then be sculpted with great verve. Our La Catrina figurine comes from a small studio in Mexico City, where it is handmade to the highest standard using the combined experience of three generations.
