Frida Kahlo's famous self-portrait with monkeys was the inspiration for this fine Day of the Dead decoration. Our Frida Skull Mask for the wall was handcrafted from red clay and comes from a small family business in Oaxaca. After firing the clay, the Frida Mask is dipped in white paint to seal the surface, just in case you were wondering if the white colour means it’s made of plaster...it’s not.
The detailed little monkeys, the green leaves and the skulls in the eyes have been attached to the body of the Frida Kahlo decoration with a solid wire. Details like the cute devil earrings, the carefully glued glitter on the hair wreath and the skillful hand painting make this weird but cute piece of skull home accessory stand out. On the back of this fine piece of original mexican folkart, a wire tab helps to securely attach it to the wall.
Unlike our other skull masks, which are designed rather convex and dimensional, this model lies more flat on the wall and can therefore be combined with our crosses in the most perfect way.
