This small scapulary is a religious garment for laypeople and consists of two small pieces of fabric embroidered with the Virgin de Guadalupe and Jesus Christ, connected by a fairly sturdy strap. Given the small surface area, the embroidery is quite detailed and is accented with delicate gold effects; on the Guadalupe image, the green robe is also embellished with glittering threads. The scapular is simply worn under clothing with one of the amulets facing forward and the other on the back—the red back is made of pleasantly soft material that you can barely feel against your skin. Of course, this religious good-luck charm is also a wonderful addition to a devotional corner at home; in Mexico, we often see scapulars paired with a rosary on the rearview mirror of a car.
