Jesus Crucifix

Hallelujah! From the “hide when grandma comes to visit” department, we present a detailed skeletonized gentleman on a massive crucifix, made from a good pound of hard-fired Mexican clay. The cross and figure were first molded individually and then fired into one piece. The hands and feet of course contain real small nails and the face framed by a delicate thorny crown speaks volumes.

Very nice details on this impressive example of Mexican Dia de los Muertos pottery art in museum quality are the realistic-looking fabric texture on the loincloth and the rough wood look with which the surface of the crucifix has been designed in elaborate detail work. The black glaze brings all of these small details to life in high contrast. The banner above the head appropriately bears the inscription INRI, the artist's signature can be found at the bottom right next to the feet and a sturdy wire bracket has been profiled into the body at the top of the individual piece for secure wall mounting.
