Mariachi Skeleton

The vintage version of our hanging skeleton uses the motif of a classic mariachi with a guitar and instead of the otherwise ubiquitous bright colors, it impresses with a black glaze that creates very dignified effects on the silver sheet metal. This simple technique allows the elaborately hand-chiseled contours of the mariachi to stand out beautifully, while the sculpted curves, especially in the upper area, give this effect even more three-dimensionality. The upper body of the mariachi skeleton is made from a single piece down to the pelvis, with the legs attached to it with small wire rings. The back of the graceful Day of the Dead decoration is not painted and shows the tinplate used in its original state. 

Artfully crafted tinplate has a long tradition in Mexico and is one of the most typical symbols of authentic Mexican handicrafts. Using tin snips, hammers and an arsenal of different chisels, the raw material is first modeled, then the edges are smoothed and the individual parts are joined together.
